William Grothe

William
Grothe was an attorney who faked his death with the intention of defrauding his
insurance company. Grothe’s personal belongings were found in a plastic bag and
his locked car by a boat ramp with yet more of his belongings. After fleeing
the scene Grothe checked into a motel using his wife’s maiden name. A couple of
days later the police received suspicious phone calls from a man claiming that
he had murdered Grothe. When the police analysed the voice they concluded that
the caller was none other than Grothe himself. Motel staff later identified
Grothe as the man in the motel.
