Pseudocide (noun, one who fakes his death)

Steve Fossett

Picture
Steve Fosset was a remarkable man, he was a successful businessman and adventurer holding many world records. On 3rd September 2007 Fosset flew a single engine plane from a private airstrip and was never seen again. He had enough few for 4 to 5 hours flying time having not filed a flight plan (which he was not required to do). Following the crash there was no signal from the airplanes Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) designed to activate automatically in the event of a crash and he was not wearing his watch with a manually operated ELT. Following his disappearance there was speculation in the media that he had faked his death. Just over a year later a hiker found 3 identification cards belonging to Fosset. The wreckage was found a couple of days later and a month later human bones with DNA matching Fossets were found.
